Grief and loss are linked to adoption in many ways. Both are considered to be CORE issues in adoption and permanency (see the Seven Core Issues section of resources for more information). All members of the adoption constellation can experience grief and loss at any given stage in their adoption journey.

Struggles with fertility and the grief and loss that accompanies it is often connected with adoption. Recognizing the value and importance of working through these losses prior to engaging in the adoption journey is important.

Post Adoption support can help address the effects the impact that loss and trauma can have on children and youth who have been adopted.
