Reconciliation in the context of adoption and permanency includes recognizing how loss and trauma impacts families. Because of colonization, we see an overrepresentation of Indigenous families and children in need of adoption and permanency support. We are working hard as an organization to shift paradigms and take colonial impacts into account as we shape our programming and services.
In this way, walking the walk of reconciliation is not only a personal call to action for each of us individually - it also flows out of our organizational mandate as we embody the values of compassion, respect, and inclusiveness. We are focused on supporting families in difficult times and addressing the loss at the heart of adoption and permanency.
Forging a stronger community means building capacity for child-centred care across all families, no matter what their racial and cultural dynamics.
