Adult Adoptee Support Group
In 2022, we have made progress with offering more supports to adult adoptees. We developed our first structured adult adoptee support group for the spring, which includes 6 psycho-educational group sessions. The topics that we focused on the topics of: anger, trauma reactions - fight versus flight, identity and culture, attachment and family systems, grief and loss, and self-care and healthy coping skills. Our group is a great way to learn more about mental health, as well as to meet others in the Saskatchewan community who may share similar experiences, challenges, and feelings behind being an adoptee.
The Evermore Centre hosted an adult adoptee support group that was run by a student working on her Master’s degree back in 2019 (when our name was Adoption Support Centre of Saskatchewan). It was held at the Evermore office for one evening a week for 3 consecutive weeks. A variety of professionals presented and adult adoptees gathered to discuss a variety of adoption related topics. It was identified that there was a need for adult adoptee support. The future goals of Evermore included the development of programming to meet the needs to the adoption community in Saskatchewan – and we have been working hard to make improvements with that!
