Human Library Tells Stories Surrounding Adoption & Permanency

November is Adoption Awareness month and The Evermore Centre is kicking it off  with The Human Library.

A Human Library is a way for people to reach out and connect with individuals in their community that they might not normally engage with.  Visitors to our library have an opportunity to borrow Human Books for 15 minutes in which they will engage in a meaningful conversation – where tough questions are expected and encouraged.

Human Libraries promote tolerance, break down prejudice and celebrate differences and encourage understanding of people who have may have different life experiences or come from different backgrounds.  Our collection of Human Books has a common theme based around permanency and adoption.

Adoption has changed profoundly throughout the years, yet many myths and misunderstandings still exist around the impact of adoption.  We believe that a Human Library is the perfect way to challenge negative stereotypes and empower people with an adoption connection to have their voices heard.

    Meet our Human Books

We are extremely lucky to have a diverse collection of Human Books for our Human Library event. Please take the time to read a synopsis of their personal stories to give you an idea of what a session with them would be about. We wish to express our gratitude to each of our Human Books for volunteering their time and their willingness to openly share their stories.

    About The Evermore Centre

The Evermore Centre provides pre- and post-adoption support services, including consultation, education, resources and more. The Evermore Centre provides these supports and programs to adoptive families, adoptees, birth parents, birth families and professionals. When adoption becomes the plan for a child, The Evermore Centre believes the child’s best interests are met when families are well-equipped with a broad understanding of adoption and the issues that may arise along the journey. Knowing what resources are available to support the child throughout their life within an adoptive family is essential from the start.
